Where to Shop

With a flexible spending account (FSA) and health savings account (HSA), you have the opportunity to set aside money on a pre-tax basis to pay for eligible expenses. You can shop for eligible expenses online or at a variety of retailers.

What is an eligible expense?

An eligible expense is any expense approved by the IRS for reimbursement from your FSA or HSA. You can verify what types of expenses are eligible with your benefits plan at www.ebcflex.com/eligibleexpenses.

How does buying eligible expenses with my FSA or HSA save me money?

Any contributions made to an FSA and/or HSA are made pre-tax, which means that they are exempt from Federal, State, and FICA payroll taxes. Because of this, when you use your FSA or HSA funds to purchase eligible expenses, you are using tax-free dollars to make your purchases. This means that you save up to 30%* on your eligible expense purchases, meaning a $100 eligible expense costs you about $70.

*This tax example is a broad approximation of tax liability. Further, your contributions may be subject to state income tax in some states. Your specific savings depend on your tax bracket. You should consult a tax advisor for help with your own situation. Current IRS tax laws control all pre-tax payment and contribution matters and are subject to change.

Where can I shop for eligible expenses online?

You can shop for eligible expenses at one of the following online shops that specialize in FSA- and HSA-eligible products.

Don’t forget to use your Benefits Card!

The easiest way to spend your funds is using your Benefits Card at a retailer that approves eligible expenses at the point of sale with their electronic payment system, including FSA StoreHSA Store, and many national chains. When you use your Benefits Card at these retailers, you pay directly from your benefit account. If you don’t have a Benefits Card, you can pay using another method and submit a request for reimbursement later.

Please note that we can’t guarantee items found at these retailers qualify as eligible expenses. You may be required to submit documentation for FSA purchases to prove they are eligible expenses. In that case, you will receive an email from us requesting documentation.
